TL;DR: The BitClout Experiment²
Michael Simmons issued a challenge: Earn $100,- in the form of a BitClout investment by him, by summarizing one of his articles.
So I took https://medium.com/accelerated-intelligence/bitclout-why-i-love-it-and-how-to-use-it-316377078be8 and put it through https://tldrthis.com/ (without reading it upfront):
Tldrthis.com argues it “helps you summarize any piece of text into concise, easy to digest content so you can free yourself from information overload.”
Tracing my thoughts
I am now reading the actual article to determine if the summary reflects the essence, and if this is a viable approach to speeding up my learning process.
Some points in random order:
- If we repeat the Google search today, “defi” scores 86% versus 10% for “bitclout”. A very temporary hype curve that seems to have gone away quickly, putting into question the core premise of the article.
- Funding: $155M+ from speculators, $160M from users (at the time of writing). Today, the Bitcoin wallet shows $233M received, $15M spent.
- The article declares there are 3 major “social token platforms”: Rally, Roll and BitClout. A quick internet search rendered Steem — founded in 2016. BitClout was launched in March 2021 — less than 2 months ago — a bit early to declare victory?
- The article contains a “top highlight”: “Bottom line: BitClout isn’t just a new social media app; it’s a new operating system for social media apps.”. The summary algorithm didn’t include this line.
- The BitClout One Pager PDF no longer exists, but they have a vision
- Recently read about the rule of scarcity — definitely applies here
OK, here goes nothing…
I signed up with BitClout and created my first post: https://bitclout.com/u/eXergy — it says I’m worth $1.88.
This is now officially turning into an experiment within the experiment — I’m curious to see if and how Michael responds. Keeping this article in draft for now [5/20/2021 9:54pm]. Considered by itself, my little post on BitClout is a bit of a low ball — although I was the first to respond…
Phase 2 [5/25/2021]
Michael’s post was issued 4 days ago (also on BitClout) and stated “valid for next week”, so let’s assume we have until Friday 28th of May. Still the only submission in the queue on LinkedIn, some comments on BitClout but no contestants. My BitClout worth dropped to $0.00 :(
Why am I doing this? Well, Michael is an expert on learning, and I’d like to get his view on https://srlinux-at-your-service.medium.com/a-t-l-for-decentralized-education-creating-a-truly-open-online-learning-platform-7521d2b273c1. So if I can engage with him on his terms, there is a chance he may read this.
And for the 💰 of course — that $250 is mine, no matter how volatile! Or maybe $350 — after all, there are no rules around the number of submissions…
